The McCormick Standard

FREQUENTLY ASKED, HONESTLY ANSWERED

What building with us actually looks like. Every custom build starts with questions — cost, timeline, location, craftsmanship. Here are honest answers to the ones we hear most, from clients across Charlotte and the Lake James Foothills.

01

Who builds custom homes in Charlotte, NC?

McCormick Custom Construction is a boutique custom home builder based in Charlotte, NC. We build primarily across Mecklenburg County, including Myers Park, Cotswold, and SouthPark, and are expanding into the Lake James Foothills region, covering Burke, McDowell, and Catawba counties. Our team is led by Adam McCormick, who oversees construction and craftsmanship on every build, and Jessica McCormick, a licensed North Carolina and South Carolina Realtor who leads design selections and property acquisition. We keep our project list intentionally small so every home gets the same level of attention.

02

How much does it cost to build a custom home in Charlotte?

Cost depends on lot, square footage, and finish level, but most McCormick builds fall in a defined range reflecting the quality of materials and craftsmanship we build to. Our recent signature build on Queens Road West, a 7,311-square-foot home, is a useful reference point for scale and finish level. We walk every client through a detailed cost breakdown before ground is broken, so there are no surprises mid-build. The clearest way to get an accurate number for your project is a direct conversation with Adam.

03

What neighborhoods do you build in around Charlotte?

We’ve built extensively in Myers Park, Cotswold, and the Freedom Park and Sugar Creek Greenway corridor, along with custom builds throughout SouthPark and Dilworth. Each neighborhood has its own lot considerations, architectural character, and buyer expectations, and we tailor design accordingly rather than repeating a single template across the city.

04

Do you build outside Charlotte?

Yes. We’re actively expanding into the Lake James Foothills region, serving Burke, McDowell, and Catawba counties. This work is geared toward buyers who want the same craftsmanship standard we hold in Charlotte, applied to the lake and mountain setting.

05

What makes a McCormick build different?

We take on a handful of builds each year, on purpose. That’s not a capacity limit, it’s the point: craftsmanship at this level doesn’t hold up if it’s spread across a dozen projects running at once. Fewer builds means Adam is on site, in the details, on every one of them, and it shows up in the finish work and in how the home holds up years after move-in. But don’t take our word for it, see what past clients have to say!

06

How long does it take to build a custom home?

Timeline depends on scope, lot conditions, and permitting, and we’ll give you a realistic build schedule specific to your project before we start. What we won’t do is give you an optimistic number just to win the job.

07

What’s the process for building with McCormick?

It starts with a conversation about your lot, your budget, and what you’re trying to build. From there, Jessica leads design selections while Adam scopes construction, and we walk you through cost and timeline before anything is finalized. Ready to start yours? 08

Are you a licensed and insured general contractor in North Carolina?

Yes. McCormick Custom Construction is a licensed general contractor in North Carolina, and we carry full liability insurance on every project we build.

09

How long have you been building custom homes in Charlotte?

McCormick Custom Construction has been building custom homes in Charlotte since 2010. Adam has personally overseen every project since day one, which is part of why we’ve kept our project list small rather than scaling up.

10

How often will I get updates during construction?

You’ll hear from Adam directly, not through a rotating project manager. We share updates at every major milestone, plus regular photos and progress notes in between, so you always know where things stand without having to chase us for information.
